Effective & Efficient Roofing Fleet Management

As a medium sized roofing company, MJR has a modest (and growing) roofing fleet. These vehicles are used on a daily basis for both our larger commercial sites and for our domestic customers. MJR believes that this fleet of vehicles makes up the backbone of the company. The roofing fleet is an important part of the process of running a successful and respected roofing company.

Running a Fleet of Roofers in London and the Surrounding Counties

This blog post will detail some of the reasons that the fleet of vehicles is such an integral part of what MJR do. It will also attempt to detail some of the general everyday systems which help MJR to run such a great fleet. This post may also explore some of the challenges which come with effectively and efficiently running a fleet of roofers in a busy city like London.

It will also attempt to detail some of the general everyday systems which help MJR to run such a great fleet, and it may also explore some of the challenges which come with effectively and efficiently running a fleet of roofers in a busy city like London.

Large commercial roofing sites need the vehicles to be available to carry out the necessary tasks which make up the day-to-day running of site work.

MJR is also aware that these vehicles and their drivers are the face of the company, and have primary site contact with residents, colleagues, clients, and other important contacts. This is why the vehicles are kept in the best possible condition, and each of the drivers and/or labourers are trained to be helpful, knowledgeable and prepared for the tasks at hand.

The drivers and vehicles provide a means to communication with residents, contractors, and the general public. This is why we use reliable vehicles and each of our drivers is specially selected through our interview process; ensuring that our drivers are hard-working, efficient with their time, and friendly.

The vehicles used on our commercial sites are also some of the larger vehicles which we have in our fleet. This is because they tend to deal with the largest amount of materials to carry, and often need to transport machinery and/or plant to different locations on various sites as well.

A number of our vehicles are sometimes referred to as 3.5-tonne vans/trucks. This is because according to the .gov.uk website, the ‘design gross limit’ of these vehicles is 3,500 kg. This does not mean that these vehicles can carry up to 3,500 kg, but that the maximum which they can weight when loaded is 3,500 kg (this also includes the driver and any passengers, and the fuel too!).

Domestic Roofing Fleet

Similarly, our domestic roofing team provide a great level of customer service too, and it’s only right that the vehicles which they drive are reassuring to our customers too. MJR believes that the quality of our vehicles, tools and materials reflect the quality standard of workmanship which our domestic roofing team provide, and our customers deserve and have come to expect.

Each of our vehicles is also fitted with a tracking device provided by Tracker. There are two main reasons for this. The first is to have easy and immediate access to the location of any of our vehicles so that they can used as efficiently as possible and sent to the nearest call-outs around them. This allows the fleet to be managed more easily, and means that delays are reduced, and unnecessary journeys are also reduced. This is great for our workers, our clients, and the general public – because it means less time wasted, less congestion on the roads, and less pollution from stop-start driving!

The second reason for fitting the tracking devices to the vehicles is that the device also records how the vehicle is being driven. This is in terms of the actions which the driver takes whilst the vehicle is in motion. So the speed that the vehicle is travelling at will be logged, along with the braking and cornering.
